Friday Announcements:

THANK YOU: We would like to give a shout out to our Athletic Trainer, Daniel Burciaga (aka Mr. B) for his time and dedication to all our athletes and PE student here at Santana. Come and say goodbye today as we wish him much luck and success as he joins the Astro’s baseball organization in Florida. Thank you Mr. B! Sultans Forever!

ATTENTION SULTAN SCHOLARS! Judging from the rise in eating incidents in the library, your friendly library staff would like to remind everyone that the Library has not changed its name to “Jack in the Library” or “Check In and Out.” Please be respectful of our goal to keep the library clean and cockroach free. Remember, stay classy Sultans!

STUDENT CONFERENCE: The Student African American Sisterhood at San Diego State University is offering a women’s high school conference. The conference’s purpose is to empower, enrich, and evolve your women within the San Diego community and neighboring counties and to get them excited about college. The conference is Saturday, February 25, 2017 beginning at 11:00 am. Spacing is limited, so to RSVP go to www.sdsuwomensconference.weebly.com.

DO YOU NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS? Santana National Little League has volunteer opportunities for high school students. This volunteer opportunity is to work in the concession stand helping serve cold and hot foods during games. The season starts April 25th and runs through early June. If you are interested please contact Santana National Little League at snll_baseball@yahoo.com .

LAST GAME: Come out and cheer on the basketball team tonight as seniors, John Bobof, and Simone (Nemo) Maritano play in their final home game.

TRACK PRACTICE starts tomorrow at 8:00 am. If it is raining we will meet under the eaves by girls PE. You must be cleared to participate. Bring your clearance sheet with you.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS: Tryouts will be held this Saturday, February 18th from 10-12:00 noon in the gym and also on Monday, February 20th from 1-3:00.

BASEBALL MEETING: There is a baseball meeting in room 209 at the beginning of lunch today for anybody interested in trying out for baseball this year.

SOFTBALL TRYOUTS are cancelled for Saturday, February 18th. Tryouts will begin on Monday, February 20th at 3:00 pm on the softball field. Athletes should arrive at the field by 2:30 to check in.

SWIM: Due to the weather expected to come in later this afternoon, practice has been cancelled. Practice will resume on Tuesday at 5:30. There will also be a parent meeting on Tuesday at 5:30.

VALENTINE GRAMS: Valentine’s Day is Tuesday. Today is the last day to buy a Valentine Gram for that special someone or even just your best friend. Valentine’s Grams are only .50 cents and are being sold in the large quad at lunch. 

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2016 AP SPANISH CLASS: Twelve brave test takers went in and challenged the exam and an amazing 12 passed. Congrats to Bryce Chung, Karen Cruz, Colton Gerry, Jon Huson, Gabi Gonzalez, Jackie Loje, Jennie Melton, Carlos Negrete, Kevin Rivas, Marcos Rosales, Amanda Stablein, and Diana Yactayo. The “12 for 12” celebration is nearing….stay tuned for more details. The 2017 group is poised to challenge that amazing success. Felicidades a todos!

ATTENTION ALL SWIMMERS: Don’t forget the first day of practice is Tuesday, February 14th at 5:30 pm. Suit orders are due today. Place your suit orders at the finance office or order online through the student store. Please contact Coach Rizzo if you have any questions.

BOYS TENNIS: The mighty Purple Tennis Nation kicks off its season this Monday at 8:00 am. Any and all boys looking to join our tennis family and learn a fun, yet very challenging game, should consider giving tennis a shot. We are especially looking for all interested Freshmen and Sophomores. No experience is necessary. We are meeting at lunch today in room 704 to go over all the season’s details. Come see what the Purple Tennis nation is all about!

Friday Announcements:

PIZZA PIZZA: All students, please remember that you are not allowed to order pizza during the school day and have it delivered.  We will turn them away at the door.

SCHOOL PAPER: Don’t forget that our school newspaper is published every Friday night.  Go to www.santanaconsultant.com .  Keep up with your fellow peers and opinions on important topics, worldly news and what is going on in the community around you.

BOYS AND GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: The girls’ JV basketball game has been cancelled.  The boys’ JV basketball game has been moved to 4:00 at Santana.

LACROSSE MEETING: There will be a girls’ lacrosse pre-season meeting on Friday, February 10th at 3:30 in the football stadium.  Tryouts are Saturday, February 18th from 8-11 a.m.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL: Attention boys’ volleyball players. If you are interested in playing this season, you must attend the meeting today during lunch in the gym.  Information regarding dates and times of tryouts will be distributed.

BOYS’ GOLF: Tryouts are right around the corner.  Your clearance paperwork is due to Mr. Kay in room 802 by next Friday.  If you have questions or need more information, stop by Mr. Kay’s room before it’s too late.

SWIM: Don’t forget, today is the last day to turn in apparel order forms to the finance office.  There will be a suit fitting today at 3:00 pm at the pool.  If you are intending to be on the swim team, you should attend the suit fitting.  If you forgot your order form or have any other questions, see Coach Rizzo in room 302.

BOYS’ TENNIS: The men's tennis season kicks off in 10 days. The very first practice will be Monday February 13th at 8am.  All interested players come see Coach Lelevier in room 704 for a schedule and all the details.  Hope to see you soon!

GIRLS’ SOFTBALL: There is a softball meeting today at lunch in room 304.  Anyone planning on trying out must attend.

PING PONG TOURNAMENT: The 1st annual Santana Winter Ping Pong Tourney is underway.  Today is open play so all those in the tourney come in and find your opponent and get a match in.  Next week we will play out the following schedule: Monday is the Olympic Division, Tuesday is for the Major League, and Wednesday is the Minors Circuit.  Good luck to all!

Friday Announcements:

VALENTINE’S DAY GRAMS will be sold in the large quad during lunch from February 6-10.  Show that special someone just how special they are by having a gram delivered to them on Valentine’s Day.

CLASS OF 2020 SHIRTS: Freshmen, don’t forget to purchase your Class of 2020 t-shirts.  This will be your class shirt for the next 4 years.  They are for sale in the finance office.

FRESHMAN AIRBANDS: If you want to join Freshman Air Bands, come by room 106 today at break or after school to sign up.  Practices are during tutorial in room 106.

ATTENTION ALL SWIMMERS: There will NOT be a suit fitting today.  The suit fitting will occur next Friday, February 3.  All apparel orders are due February 3 and are to be submitted at the finance office.  If you are interested in joining the swim team this year or if you did not receive an email with the catalog, please see Coach Rizzo in room 302.

ACADEMIC LEAGUE: The JV Academic League team, led by high scores from Kierstyn Connell and Cole Hunter, crushed Monte Vista with a score of 64 to 12.  Way to go Sultans!

BOYS’ GOLF: Are you interested in trying out for boys’ golf this season?  Gold tryouts are less than a month away.  Come to Mr. Kay’s room, 802, today at lunch to get more information.

Friday Announcements:

FOOD DRIVE: No one enjoys being hungry; unfortunately, we have families here at Santana High School in need.  Thus, we will be creating our own Food Bank, which will be available to our students and their families.  Our Food Drive will begin Wednesday, January 18th.  All food products must be non perishable items.  Boxes will be placed in the front and the back of the school for collection.  This is a class competition as well.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Carter in the nurse’s office.

SENIOR BABY PHOTOS: All senior baby photos that will be featured in the yearbook are due next Friday, January 20th.  You can submit your name and picture through the yearbook page under “students” on the Santana website.  Don’t miss out on your chance to have your photo featured!

ROBOTICS season has started!  The new game announced this year is called SteamWorks.  Come help Santana’s team take flight in this new adventure.  Build season is underway.  Meetings are in Ms. Stanley’s room 307, at lunch.

SANTEE PAGEANTS: The 2017 Miss Santee and Miss Teen Santee pageants will be held on Saturday, March 4.  We are currently seeking outgoing residents ages 12-26 to participate in a program that has been a tradition since the late 1960’s and is an outstanding mentoring program for your women.  Interested participants can visit our website www.4PointsEvents.com to apply or attend our orientation at Santee City Hall, Building 8, on Sunday, January 15th at 1:00 pm.

FRESHMEN: There will be a meeting on Thursday, January 19th during lunch in room 106 for any freshman who would like to participate in the Class of 2020 Airbands.

INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER: Deven Henselmeier was chosen to receive the Dr. Pepper Most Inspirational Player Award presented by the Holiday Bowl. This award aims to recognize the unsung heroes of our high school football teams. This individual might often be overlooked on the field, yet inspires his teammates and coaches through his commitment, positive attitude and willingness to preserve through adversity. The winner of the award will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship prize on-field during the Holiday Bowl this December.

Bobby Wallace was chosen 2nd Team All CIF for Football. He Broke 9 school records in his career. They are:

·       All Time single season rushing leader with 1,668 yards.

·       All-Time Career Rushing leader with 3,416 yards.

·       All-Time Touchdowns in a Game with 5.

·       All-time Touchdowns in a season with 26.

·       All-time leader in scoring for a game with 30 points.

·       All-Time single season scoring leader with 156 points.

·       All-Time Career scoring leader with 264 points.

·       All-time Single Season all-purpose yards leader with 1,855.

·       All-Time Career All Purpose Yards leader with 3,943 yards.

·       44 Career Touchdowns

ASVAB: If you plan to take the ASVAB next semester, the test is February 16. Students can sign up with Mr. Rose or Tim Barry.

ROBOTIC'S SEASON is upon us and bringing in the new year with a new game for competition. Join us for a jam packed 6 week building adventure to showcase our robotics’ team. Meetings are Wednesdays at lunch in room 307.

PSAT SCORES: PSAT scores have arrived and will be available starting this Monday in the attendance office.

BASKETBALL MEETING: All levels of boys’ basketball, there will be a meeting today at break in the dance room.

BOYS BASKETBALL GAME: This Saturday's boy’s basketball game at Steele Canyon has been changed from 7:30 pm to 6. Come out and support your Sultans.

Friday Announcements:

ALL STUDENTS:  Just a reminder that you may not walk around with your skateboard during the school day.  You must lock it up in the skateboard rack in the back parking lot.  If you do not have a lock, see Mrs. King in the front office.

WINNING: Varsity Academic League was victorious this week against West Hills and will keep the perpetual trophy for another year!  Santana’s dominating defeat of the Wolfpack was a team effort with Nathan Garrett, Zach Shoemaker, Sivar Azadi, Brandan Taing, Tim Paule, Derek Cantor, and Jon Huson playing an excellent match.  The JV team also had a strong showing led by Kierstyn Connell and Narrie Loftus.  Go Sultans!

GUEST PASSES for the Winter Formal are available in Mrs. King’s office. They must be completely filled out and brought back to Mrs. King in order to be approved for the dance.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: The American Revolution Essay Contest is open to all grades and the award for the best essay is $250.  If you are interested in participating, see Mrs. Spenny in the guidance office.  Essays are due December 15th

PLAYOFF GAME TODAY: If you can’t make it to the big game today, it will be televised LIVE on Cox Channel 4 and 1004.

GUEST PASSES for the Winter Formal will be in Mrs. King’s office beginning Monday, December 5th.  The forms must be completely fill out and brought back to Mrs. King in order to be approved for the dance.

Friday:  Holiday Wear (Santana hat/sweaters/festive socks)

SHOUT OUTS:  Give a shout out to your favorite football players of the season or wish your friends or that special someone a Merry Christmas by posting a Personal Shout Out on the library TV.  Your message and picture will run in the library for an entire week.  Come and see Mrs. Teschler in the library for details.

ART COMPETITION: If you are an amazing artist, this competition is for you!  Let your creative juices flow and design a school-themed front and back cover for the 2017-18 Santana Student Planner.  Your design must be school appropriate and school themed.  Please see Ms. Bachmann for design requirements.  Entries must be emailed to Ms. Bachmann at tbachmann@guhsd.net or hand delivered to room 306.  All submissions will be entered into a survey and the Santana student body will vote on the design they want to be the planner cover for the following school year.  Start thinking, start drawing, and start designing!

ESSAY CONTEST: The American Revolution Essay Contest is open to all grades and the award for the best essay is $250.  If you are interested in participating, see Mrs. Spenny in the guidance office.  Essays are due December 15th

SULTAN NEWSPAPER: Hey there Sultans!  Don’t forget about our school newspaper online.  Go to www.santanaconsultant.com or the Santana website for the link..  We publish every Friday night.  Keep up with your fellow peers and opinions on important topics, worldly news, and what is going on in the community around you.  

CONGRATULATIONS to the following cross country runners for earning All-League by finishing in the top ten in the League Finals:  Jamie McDonald, Carmen Gonzales, Raquel Barriga, Janice Deguerio, Karen Cruz, Vincent, Cameron Bleyle, and Joseph Rowe.  Also, the boys’ team earned a berth in the State Championship run last Saturday.  They are:  Vincent Velletta, Cameron Bleyle, Joseph Rowe, John Lockmann, Devin Winslow, Austin Cooksey and Zane Moore.  Congratulations on a great season.  There will be a brief meeting today at break in the dance room for the cross country team.

Friday Announcements:

ACADEMIC LEAGUE: The Santana Varsity Academic League beat El Capitan this week 89 to 19 and the Santana JV team was also victorious with a 34 to 26 win over their opponents.  Standouts this week included Nathan Garrett, Zach Shoemaker, Kierstyn Connell, and Cole Hunter.  Way to go Sultans!

ATTENTION SENIORS who are applying to a California State University. It has been brought to our attention that there are two Santana High Schools listed in Santee on the CSU Mentor application. This is an error. You need to select the second Santana listed with the school code of 053342. We have contacted a CSU representative and will hopefully get this fixed but in the meantime if you search for Santana High School on the CSU Mentor application, please select the one with the code 053342.

GOOD LUCK: The Santana Band and Colorguard would like to wish the Sultan football team good luck tonight in their game against Coronado.

FIELD SHOW SPECTACULAR: Last night, the Santana Band participated in the annual Grossmont District Field Show spectacular. All of our District marching bands were there, and it was a pleasure to see all of the fine performances.

CELEBRATE YOUR FRIENDS! Ask that special someone out! Celebrate an anniversary or birthday!  Give a shout out to someone special!  For the cost of less than a Starbucks Grande you can create a unique message to show on the Library TV for a week doing any one of these! See Mrs. Teschler or Mrs. Winslow for details. 

CONGRATULATIONS to the boys and girls cross country teams for winning the Grossmont League Championship. This is the boys’ first win in 8 years and the girls first win in 20 years. Great job and good luck in the CIF championship race tomorrow.
