Friday Announcements:

FOOD DRIVE: No one enjoys being hungry; unfortunately, we have families here at Santana High School in need.  Thus, we will be creating our own Food Bank, which will be available to our students and their families.  Our Food Drive will begin Wednesday, January 18th.  All food products must be non perishable items.  Boxes will be placed in the front and the back of the school for collection.  This is a class competition as well.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Carter in the nurse’s office.

SENIOR BABY PHOTOS: All senior baby photos that will be featured in the yearbook are due next Friday, January 20th.  You can submit your name and picture through the yearbook page under “students” on the Santana website.  Don’t miss out on your chance to have your photo featured!

ROBOTICS season has started!  The new game announced this year is called SteamWorks.  Come help Santana’s team take flight in this new adventure.  Build season is underway.  Meetings are in Ms. Stanley’s room 307, at lunch.

SANTEE PAGEANTS: The 2017 Miss Santee and Miss Teen Santee pageants will be held on Saturday, March 4.  We are currently seeking outgoing residents ages 12-26 to participate in a program that has been a tradition since the late 1960’s and is an outstanding mentoring program for your women.  Interested participants can visit our website www.4PointsEvents.com to apply or attend our orientation at Santee City Hall, Building 8, on Sunday, January 15th at 1:00 pm.

FRESHMEN: There will be a meeting on Thursday, January 19th during lunch in room 106 for any freshman who would like to participate in the Class of 2020 Airbands.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: For anyone interested in playing Boys’ Volleyball this spring season, there will be a mandatory meeting held on Friday, February 3rd during lunch in the gym.  Information regarding the dates and times for tryouts will be provided at the meeting.

ECOLOGY CLUB: Come join the Ecology Club next Wednesday at lunch in room S-8 as we kick off the 2nd Semester with a fun Eco-related activity and a chance to hear more new ideas for our club.  You will be treated to a reward if you show up so join us.

PING PONG CLUB: The PING PONG Club is off and running.  With 50+ members we have created 3 divisions.  The Olympic division plays on Mondays, the Intermediates play on Tuesdays, and the Novice division plays on Wednesdays.  Friday is open play.  Any and all are still welcome to join.  Our first fundraiser begins soon.  Come to 704 today to get all the info and to join the Ping Pong rage.

Friday  Announcements:

INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER: Deven Henselmeier was chosen to receive the Dr. Pepper Most Inspirational Player Award presented by the Holiday Bowl. This award aims to recognize the unsung heroes of our high school football teams. This individual might often be overlooked on the field, yet inspires his teammates and coaches through his commitment, positive attitude and willingness to preserve through adversity. The winner of the award will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship prize on-field during the Holiday Bowl this December.

Bobby Wallace was chosen 2nd Team All CIF for Football. He Broke 9 school records in his career. They are:

·       All Time single season rushing leader with 1,668 yards.

·       All-Time Career Rushing leader with 3,416 yards.

·       All-Time Touchdowns in a Game with 5.

·       All-time Touchdowns in a season with 26.

·       All-time leader in scoring for a game with 30 points.

·       All-Time single season scoring leader with 156 points.

·       All-Time Career scoring leader with 264 points.

·       All-time Single Season all-purpose yards leader with 1,855.

·       All-Time Career All Purpose Yards leader with 3,943 yards.

·       44 Career Touchdowns

HOLIDAY GRAM: Want to spread some holiday cheer to your friends? Send them a holiday gram! The last day to buy will be at lunch today in the large quad.

ASVAB: If you plan to take the ASVAB next semester, the test is February 16. Students can sign up with Mr. Rose or Tim Barry.

ROBOTIC'S SEASON is upon us and bringing in the new year with a new game for competition. Join us for a jam packed 6 week building adventure to showcase our robotics’ team. Meetings are Wednesdays at lunch in room 307.

PSAT SCORES: PSAT scores have arrived and will be available starting this Monday in the attendance office.

BASKETBALL MEETING: All levels of boys’ basketball, there will be a meeting today at break in the dance room.

BOYS BASKETBALL GAME: This Saturday's boy’s basketball game at Steele Canyon has been changed from 7:30 pm to 6. Come out and support your Sultans.

Friday Announcements:

ALL STUDENTS:  Just a reminder that you may not walk around with your skateboard during the school day.  You must lock it up in the skateboard rack in the back parking lot.  If you do not have a lock, see Mrs. King in the front office.

WINNING: Varsity Academic League was victorious this week against West Hills and will keep the perpetual trophy for another year!  Santana’s dominating defeat of the Wolfpack was a team effort with Nathan Garrett, Zach Shoemaker, Sivar Azadi, Brandan Taing, Tim Paule, Derek Cantor, and Jon Huson playing an excellent match.  The JV team also had a strong showing led by Kierstyn Connell and Narrie Loftus.  Go Sultans!

GUEST PASSES for the Winter Formal are available in Mrs. King’s office. They must be completely filled out and brought back to Mrs. King in order to be approved for the dance.

PING PONG CLUB: It is on like Donkey Kong!  The much anticipated Ping Pong Club will have its first fathering of the year in room 704 today at lunch.  Any and all interested in being a part of the Ping Pong movement is invited.  We will be planning the leagues and tournaments that will take place the rest of the year.  Players will be grouped into divisions according to experience and ability so there is a spot in the new club for each ability level, from beginner to Olympic champion.  Come see what all the talk is about today in room 704.

PLAYOFF GAME TODAY: If you can’t make it to the big game today, it will be televised LIVE on Cox Channel 4 and 1004.

GUEST PASSES for the Winter Formal will be in Mrs. King’s office beginning Monday, December 5th.  The forms must be completely fill out and brought back to Mrs. King in order to be approved for the dance.

NEXT WEEK IS SPIRIT WEEK SO DRESS UP AS FOLLOWS:

SHOUT OUTS:  Give a shout out to your favorite football players of the season or wish your friends or that special someone a Merry Christmas by posting a Personal Shout Out on the library TV.  Your message and picture will run in the library for an entire week.  Come and see Mrs. Teschler in the library for details.

ART COMPETITION: If you are an amazing artist, this competition is for you!  Let your creative juices flow and design a school-themed front and back cover for the 2017-18 Santana Student Planner.  Your design must be school appropriate and school themed.  Please see Ms. Bachmann for design requirements.  Entries must be emailed to Ms. Bachmann at tbachmann@guhsd.net or hand delivered to room 306.  All submissions will be entered into a survey and the Santana student body will vote on the design they want to be the planner cover for the following school year.  Start thinking, start drawing, and start designing!

CONGRATULATIONS to the following cross country runners for earning All-League by finishing in the top ten in the League Finals:  Jamie McDonald, Carmen Gonzales, Raquel Barriga, Janice Deguerio, Karen Cruz, Vincent, Cameron Bleyle, and Joseph Rowe.  Also, the boys’ team earned a berth in the State Championship run last Saturday.  They are:  Vincent Velletta, Cameron Bleyle, Joseph Rowe, John Lockmann, Devin Winslow, Austin Cooksey and Zane Moore.  Congratulations on a great season.  There will be a brief meeting today at break in the dance room for the cross country team.

Friday Announcements:

ACADEMIC LEAGUE: The Santana Varsity Academic League beat El Capitan this week 89 to 19 and the Santana JV team was also victorious with a 34 to 26 win over their opponents.  Standouts this week included Nathan Garrett, Zach Shoemaker, Kierstyn Connell, and Cole Hunter.  Way to go Sultans!

ATTENTION SENIORS who are applying to a California State University. It has been brought to our attention that there are two Santana High Schools listed in Santee on the CSU Mentor application. This is an error. You need to select the second Santana listed with the school code of 053342. We have contacted a CSU representative and will hopefully get this fixed but in the meantime if you search for Santana High School on the CSU Mentor application, please select the one with the code 053342.

GOOD LUCK: The Santana Band and Colorguard would like to wish the Sultan football team good luck tonight in their game against Coronado.

FIELD SHOW SPECTACULAR: Last night, the Santana Band participated in the annual Grossmont District Field Show spectacular. All of our District marching bands were there, and it was a pleasure to see all of the fine performances.

CELEBRATE YOUR FRIENDS! Ask that special someone out! Celebrate an anniversary or birthday!  Give a shout out to someone special!  For the cost of less than a Starbucks Grande you can create a unique message to show on the Library TV for a week doing any one of these! See Mrs. Teschler or Mrs. Winslow for details. 

CONGRATULATIONS to the boys and girls cross country teams for winning the Grossmont League Championship. This is the boys’ first win in 8 years and the girls first win in 20 years. Great job and good luck in the CIF championship race tomorrow.

HONOR ROLL CERTIFICATES:  If you have an honor roll certificate that you did not receive at the awards ceremony, please come by and see Ms. Bingham to pick it up.  Certificates not picked up by the end of the day today will be delivered to your classroom after Thanksgiving recess.

GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS begin Saturday, November 12th. JV is 8-10:00 am and Varsity is 10-12:00 noon. 

BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS: There has been a change to the boys’ basketball tryouts.  The varsity tryouts will start at 4:00, the freshmen will start at 2:00 and JV will remain at 12:00.  You must be cleared to participate.  Questions, see Coach Bobof.

BASEBALL MEETING: Interested in playing baseball?  There will be an informational meeting in room 209 on Tuesday, November 15 during lunch.  Anyone interested in playing baseball must attend this meeting including all fall and winter sport athletes interested in playing.

Friday Announcements:

GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS will take place on Saturday, November 12th.  JV 8am to 10am and Varsity 10am to Noon.

ATTENTION SOPHOMORES: If you ordered a class t-shirt, they are now available for pick up! Head over to the finance office at break or lunch to pick yours up.

SENIOR TAKE OVER DAY: Applications are due by Monday at 12:30 pm.

LIBRARY RULES: A friendly but firm reminder to all you Sultan Scholars that the Library is a no-food OR drink zone.  Although we LOOOOVE to see you, please finish your snack or lunch before coming in.  We have been seeing an increase in the roach population and they are definitely NOT the new chosen mascot of the Library, so, remember, leave the food, bring the Sultan Pride.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME REMINDER: Clown costumes and clown masks will not be allowed at school on Halloween.

PEER MEDIATORS: Sultans, Mrs. Spenny is still in need of peer mediators.  You must be a junior or senior who is interested in helping students resolve conflict.  Mediation training is coming up quick, so see Mrs. Spenny for an application.

FROSH FOOTBALL: The freshman football team won tonight against El Cajon High School 34-8. Their record now is 7 wins, 1 loss!! They play their final game next week against Mount Miguel at Mount Miguel. It has been an amazing season for these boys and coaches :)

CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the following cross country runners for earning medals at last Saturday’s Mt. Sac Invitational, the largest cross country meet in the world:

Joseph Rowe, Cameron Poche, Willy Gates, Devin Winslow, Cody Butrovich, Cole Evans, Cole Peterson, Gary Adamos, Jacob Garcia,

Merik Wilson, Jamie McDonald, Raquel Barriga, Carmen Gonzales, Janice Deguerio, Karen Cruz, Hannah Lockmann.

The sophomore boys were 2nd in their division and the varsity girls took 1st place in their division.  The whole team did an awesome job and Coach Bobof and Coach Knoll are so proud of you!

Friday Announcements

MINIMUM DAY:        Monday, October 24, is a minimum day.

 

CLOWN COSTUMES: Clown costumes and clown masks will not be allowed at school on Halloween.

 

RED RIBBON WEEK BEGINS ON TUESDAY!  Here is the schedule of events:

  • Tuesday:  Kick off the week with music in the large quad at lunch.
  • Wednesday:  Wear RED and spin the wheel of prizes!  Students who wear red get to be the first ones to spin.
  • Thursday/Friday:  Sign the Wall Pledge to be drug and tobacco free!  Thursday, play a game of giant Twister.  The winner will receive a prize.

YEARBOOK SENIOR ADS: Sultan Seniors!  Don’t forget yearbook ads are on sale and discounted until October 31st.  1/8th page ads are $30, quarter page ads are $50, half page ads are $100 and full page ads are $200.  After October 31st prices will go up.

STUDENT PIANIST: The Santana Music Department is looking for a competent student pianist.  While it is not necessary for you to be a concert pianist, it would be nice if you could play accompaniment.  This is for our budding Santana Show Choir.  If you know someone who you think is a candidate, contact Mr. Stalmann in room 602.

CHEER MEETING: There is a cheer meeting today at lunch for all current cheerleaders and any student interested in the open school winter cheer season.

PURPLE TENNIS NATION: Congratulations to the Purple Tennis Nation as they have qualified for CIF.  They will travel to Carlsbad on Tuesday in hopes of upsetting Sage Creek.  Big congrats go to our 6 ladies who were selected on the All-League Team.  First team all-league single selections include Sydney Benjamin and Melody Benjamin.  First team doubles selection includes Nicole Brundage and Maxine Kelley and 2nd team doubles selection include Allison Velasquez and Sophia Martorana.  Congrats on a fantastic year!  We are voting at lunch today so all team members need to be present.  See you then.

BOYS SOCCER MEETING: All boys interested in playing soccer this year, there is a mandatory meeting this Tuesday, October 25th at lunch in room 311.  Any questions please see Coach Phillips.

SENIOR PORTRAITS: Seniors, just a reminder that next week Senior Pictures will be taken here at Santana.  You should have all received a Lifetouch envelope that tells you when you are scheduled for your photo.  If you did not receive one, please call Lifetouch at 858-935-6969 or see Mrs. King in the VP Office for more information.

GOT PLANS? Tomorrow is the day!  You have plans to be at our district wide college and career fair.  This free event at Cuyamaca College is open to all students and families.  Over 100 college and career representatives will be there to meet you and host informative breakout sessions.  See you tomorrow at Cuyamaca from 10-1:00.

AP STUDY GROUP: Taking an AP class and need a study group?  Come to the AP Help Club where you and others taking AP classes can help each other out on homework, studying and more.  Come to room S2 on Tuesdays at lunch.

PURPLE 5K FUN RUN: Come support Santana football and cheer at the first annual Purple 5K Fun, Run, and Walk on October 23rd.  The race starts at 8:00 am.  The cost is:  Adults $20, Students with ASB card $15; children $15.  Entry includes a t-shirt.  Hurry and register because the rates increase after October 13th.
